Enable the (Hidden) Administrator Account on Windows 7 or Vista
Many people familiar with prior versions of Windows are curious what happened to the built-in Administrator account that was always created by default. Does this account still exist, and how can you access it?
The account is created in Windows 7 or Vista, but since it’s not enabled you can’t use it. If you are troubleshooting something that needs to run as administrator, you can enable it with a simple command.
Note: You really shouldn’t use this account for anything other than troubleshooting. In fact, you probably shouldn’t use it at all.
Enable Built-in Administrator Account
First you’ll need to open a command prompt in administrator mode by right-clicking and choosing “Run as administrator” (or use the Ctrl+Shift+Enter shortcut from the search box)
Now type the following command:
You should see a message that the command completed successfully. Log out, and you’ll now see the Administrator account as a choice.

How to Speed up your PC by this simple RAM tweak
Well this is a little tut or in other terms a simple hack or a tweak for the techs. SO… Faster PC , first of all why a faster PC ?? Well its not a question of a faster PC but this is more a question of when. If you’ve been running a large application (or several large applications, maybe a game, Photoshop, something like that) the RAM can get taken up quickly. Even when you close down these programs, RAM can still be eaten-up.
You’ll notice this effect at the end of the day. When you first power-up your PC it’s running smoothly, by the end of the day it gets sluggish. Yes, you can get various softwares to solve this. May of which costs but when free things matters, heres how a simple trick can work (in both XP and Vista)
- Open up Notepad (I use Notepad++, review coming soon)
- Type in MYSTRING=(80000000)
- Save the file as MEMORY.VBE (or RAM.VBE if you like…just remember the .VBE)
- Make sure you save the file to your DESKTOP.
- Just double-click the newly created file on your desktop whenever your PC seems sluggish. It will give your RAM a much needed boost.

Increase Hard Disk speed in Windows
If you like to increase/optimize your Hard Disk I/O - read/write speed without buying expensive software utilities to do that job or changing the HD, just follow next steps. With doing these steps you will increase Hard disk speed (depends of manufacture and specification, but its worth to try). The most speed improvement is visible with IDE drives; however there are reports that this tweak also does good for SCSI disks.

Installing the Updated XP Mode which Requires no Hardware Virtualization
Good news for those of you who have a computer without Hardware Virtualization, Microsoft had dropped the requirement so you can now run XP Mode on your machine. Here we take a look at how to install it and getting working on your PC.
Microsoft has dropped the requirement that your CPU supports Hardware Virtualization for XP Mode in Windows 7. Before this requirement was dropped, we showed you how to use SecureAble to find out if your machine would run XP Mode. If it couldn’t, you might have gotten lucky with turning Hardware Virtualization on in your BIOS, or getting an update that would enable it. If not, you were out of luck or would need a different machine.
Note: Although you no longer need Hardware Virtualization, you still need Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate version of Windows 7.
Download Correct Version of XP Mode
For this article we’re installing it on a Dell machine that doesn’t support Hardware Virtualization on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit version.
The first thing you’ll want to do is go to the XP Mode website and select your edition of Windows 7 and language. Then there are three downloads you’ll need to get from the page. Windows XP Mode, Windows Virtual PC, and the Windows XP Mode Update
Windows genuine validation is required before you can download the XP Mode files. To make the validation process easier you might want to use IE when downloading these files and validating your version of Windows.
Installing XP Mode
After validation is successful the first thing to download and install is XP Mode, which is easy following the wizard and accepting the defaults.
The second step is to install KB958559 which is Windows Virtual PC
After it’s installed, a reboot is required.
After you’ve come back from the restart, you’ll need to install KB977206 which is the Windows XP Mode Update.
After that’s installed, yet another restart of your system is required.
After the update is configured and you return from the second reboot, you’ll find XP Mode in the Start menu under the Windows Virtual PC folder.
Choose if you want Automatic Updates or not…
Then you’re given a message saying setup will share the hardware on your computer, then click Start Setup.
While setup completes, you’re shown a display of what XP Mode does and how to use it.
XP Mode launches and you can now begin using it to run older applications that are not compatible with Windows 7.

How to make folder backgrounds in WinXP
First you need to make a folder within whatever folder you want a background image, and name this folder Folder Settings. Inside it, place any Bitmap (.bmp) image you want to use as the background, and name it Background. Remember, it has to be a Bitmap image!
Next, open up Wordpad and copy/paste this:
[ExtShellFolderViews]
{BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}={BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}
{5984FFE0-28D4-11CF-AE66-08002B2E1262}={5984FFE0-28D4-11CF-AE66-08002B2E1262}
[{BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}]
Attributes=1
IconArea_Image=Folder Settings\Background.bmp
IconArea_Text=0x00FFFFFF
[.ShellClassInfo]
ConfirmFileOp=0
IconFile=%USERPROFILE%\place address of icon you want to use right here--see below.ico
IconIndex=0
[{5984FFE0-28D4-11CF-AE66-08002B2E1262}]
PersistMoniker=file://Folder Settings\Folder.htt
PersistMonikerPreview=%WebDir%\folder.bmp
IconArea_Text can be any color you want. 0x00FFFFFF will make the text of files/folder names white. Experiment with 0 (zero) & F combinations until you find something you like.
For IconFile, simply find an icon on your system that you like, right-click on it, and copy the location to the correct place in the Wordpad document. Don't copy the drive letter, such as C:\. Only copy what comes after C;\. For instance, here's one from my system: Documents and Settings\BoCoMoFo\My Documents\Icon Library\Logos\tfp.ico
Once you've done that, you need to save the text file with the extension .ini. It's full name should be desktop.ini. When it's saved, the icon of the text document will be a piece of paper with a gear on it. After you've done this, hit refresh (F5) or close the folder and re-open it. You should now have a custom background! Once everything is working correctly, right-click Folder Settings & desktop.ini and mark them both as Hidden.
Let me know if you need any more help. Also note that for some unknown reason, this won't work for every folder. Don't ask me why.

How to Set Up an Ad Hoc Wireless Computer-to-Computer Network
In this article I will show you how to create an ad hoc wireless network. These wireless networks work between mobile computers such as laptops or netbooks and allow users to quickly share files and folders between them.
The guide will be split into three parts: creating the ad hoc wireless network, connecting other computers to it, and sharing files & folders on the newly created network.
Step 1: Creating the Ad Hoc Wireless Network
First, open the network and sharing centre . Click on 'Set up a new connection or network'.
You will see a new window which describes the things you can do on a wireless ad hoc network. Read the contents of the window and click Next.
Now it is time to set up the network. First, type the network name and then select the security type you want to use. For more security, I recommend you choose WPA2-Personal. It provides better encryption and it is much harder to crack than WEP. Then, type the password you want to use and, in case you want to use this network on other occasions, check the box that says 'Save this network'. When done, click Next
The wizard will now create the network. This activity should take no more than a few seconds.
When finished, you will receive a notification that the network has been created and it is ready to use. Make sure you don't forget the password and then click on Close.
Your laptop will now broadcast this newly created network and it will wait for other computers to connect.
Step 2: Connecting Other Computers to the Network
Now it is time to connect other computers to this network. On the client computer, click the network icon from the notification area and you will see the list of available networks. Select the ad hoc network which you just created and click on Connect.
You will be asked to type the password. When done, click on OK.
Windows 7 will now take a few seconds to connect to the network.
Step 3: Sharing Files & Folders on the Network
After setting up an ad hoc computer-to-computer network and connecting all client computers, one would assume that features such as file sharing, networking discovery, etc will be working and you would be able to start sharing the content you need. Unfortunately this is not the case.
After a client is connected, it will spend a few seconds identifying the network. When this happens, the network sharing center will look similar to the screenshot below.
After the network is identified, Windows 7 will assign to it the public network file. This means that you cannot share anything. Another problem is the fact that you cannot change the assigned network profile from public to work or home.
This means that you have to manually change the network and sharing settings for the public network profile. Make sure you turn on all the features you need for the public network profile on all computers which are part of your network.
SECURITY WARNING: when you disconnect from the ad hoc network, make sure you reset the network sharing settings for the public network profile. If you keep them unchanged, the next time you connect to a different public network, your computer might be at risk by allowing others to have access to your files and folders. So, make sure you reset these settings to their default values when you are done.
Conclusion
This feature can be useful when you need to connect your laptop with another person's to quickly share some files. With further configuration you can also use this type of network connection to share the internet connection on one of the computers.
The not so fortunate part is that it seems impossible to easily change the network profile assigned to this type of connection. In most cases it will be stuck to public and you will need to manually change the network sharing settings of the public network profile. This, as mentioned above, can lead to security problems in case you connect to other truly public networks.
If you know a solution to this problem or you have some other interesting tips to share, don't hesitate to leave a comment.
